Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipan

The Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipan provides an interesting glimpse into funerary rituals of high ranking people from the Moche culture. This was without question one of the best museums we visited on our entire trip. Unfortunately photography was prohibited but if you follow this link you can see a small sample of what we saw and learn a bit of background about the site and museum. In the photo below we are standing outside of the museum which was designed to resemble the tomb of the Lord of Sipan.

Brüning Museum

The Brüning Museum is a much older museum which was established in the nineteen twenties. Photography was allowed in this museum, so we were able to capture images of some similar artifacts.

Back to Peru and Kuelap ruins

After kilometres of desolate single lane dirt roads we came across La Balsa border crossing where it would appear that governments of both countries have banded together to build a multi-lane paved bridge with a sidewalk on either side over the river. We were expecting something a little more modest, since la balsa translates to the raft. During our two hour stay at the border we did not see one vehicle cross the bridge.



The countryside on the Peru side of the border was scattered with lush green rice paddies.

Kuelap
Sitting at an altitude of 3000 metres, Kuelap is a pre-inca site in Northern Peru thought to have been built over a period of 200 years between ~900-1100AD.

Last Galapagos Post: Boobies and Religion

Phewf, we made it in only 20 Galapagos posts. We were starting to worry that there would be 30 afterall. By this point you are likely either dying to see it for yourself or so tired that you never want to see another blue footed boobie or marine iguana in your life.

Churches of the Galapagos


In one of the most important birthplaces of Darwininean theory, the church is on the defensive with a higher ratio of missionaries than we have encountered elsewhere. This sign is to remind the gringo sinners where their beliefs should lie if they find themselves being swayed by evolutionary theory.

Very sad to be leaving
