After a week of watching their older siblings and parents take part in the processions, Easter Sunday was a time for the children to take part in the festivities. The children's marching bands played many of the same songs as their taller compatriots and they did so with impressive skill. Below is post one of two of Popayan's 48th annual children's procession.

Popayan Orchid Exhibit
Part of the Semana Santa festivities included a national orchid festival. As some of the only foreigners in town we were given lots of attention when we decided to drop in. After getting a private hour-long tour by one of the organizers we were interviewed by the local TV news station. For the rest of the week we kept bumping into people who had seen us on the news.
Apparently this orchid takes 5-7 minutes to open and then lasts 3 days before shriveling up. It opened the night before the orchid festival to the delight of the orchid enthusiasts.
